Ascend 910C: Huawei’s New Weapon in AI Hardware

Huawei is making waves in China’s AI chip market with the launch of its new Ascend 910C processor.

The company has started sending samples to major Chinese server manufacturers for testing, signaling a serious push into the competitive AI hardware space.

Building on the success of its previous 910B model, which was used to train about half of China’s 70 most powerful large language models last year.

Huawei aiming to strengthen China’s domestic AI industry and reduce dependency on US technology.

To further this goal, Huawei has also formed a consortium of Chinese chipmakers to develop high-bandwidth memory chips for AI by 2026, offering an alternative to Nvidia’s products.

Despite these efforts, Nvidia remains a top competitor. Its H20 chip, designed specifically for the Chinese market, has seen strong sales. Nvidia is expected to ship over one million H20 GPUs in China this year, generating around $12 billion in sales.

While it remains to be seen if Huawei can beat Nvidia from its dominant position, the competition is likely to accelerate AI development in China and lessen the country’s reliance on US technology.

With the Ascend 910C, Huawei is not just challenging a tech giant but also paving the way for a more self-sufficient and innovative Chinese AI ecosystem.
